Outing

We took a drive to the nearby village. Should have taken more pictures. It was magical. Stone houses with thatched roofs, mansions, castles, churches... This is an old empty church with a cemetary. The other picture is a grand house. It was very well landscaped, had a summer house, tennis court, and 2 smaller buildings which looked like living quarters for guests or housekeepers.

There are so many trees and bushes here that have colored berries. My favorite is this tree that has lost all it's leaves and has lots of cherry looking things left on it that are bright red. Beautiful! This picture is looking out a bedroom window into Harmony's back yard. The way they put different colors and textures of plants together is so lovely. I hope I can make my new yard look so pleasing.

English food is yucky!

For the most part, English food is pretty yucky. It is really hard to find places to eat around here. For breakfast we stopped at a fast food place but everything was bagged and prepared previously. They would heat it in the microwave for you. So we went to a gas station. We looked for a bit and I finally decided on these oatmeal looking things. It tasted like sweet shortening with oats in it. Good thing I bought some milk to wash it down. Aaron opted to have a turkey sandwich from the day before for his breakfast.

This was my lunch. It was a flaky pastry with with this sauce that had some cheese and onion in it. It was ok. Harmony and Aaron got this flaky pastry that had a sausage in it. Only the sausage was not the kind of sausage we were thinking of. It was mushy and mild flavored. Tasted like vienna sausage. All in all, not too nutritious and not very good. Oh well, the scenery makes up for it!

Newly restored Avebury Manor

We just happened to stop at a site that had just been restored. In fact, BBC aired a show about it the night before we got there.(http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b017m17p/The_Manor_Reborn_Episode_1/)
There are 3 more episodes to go. Wish we wouldn't have been in such a hurry. This site is different because they allow you to touch and try everything. I picked up an old phone and heard someone talking, turned on the old phonograph and played an old record, and sat on the chaise lounge. After watching the program, I realize that I could have sat on a bouncing chair, sat on the toilet where a King sat, and laid on a bed for a Queen. Jolly good time, I should say!
